Safe Schools

School Entry Procedures

On November 1, 2018, all Portsmouth schools will begin using a new visitor management process called the Raptor System. The procedure will enable each school building to screen all visitors against a national sexual offender database and it will establish a consistent sign-in process across the school division.

We welcome visitors and encourage all parents to be an active part of their children’s educational experience. We also want to keep schools safe. The goal is simply to enhance the safety and security of both students and staff by prohibiting school access to those who pose a potential threat.

How It Will Work

  • All visitors, including parents, will be asked to report to the main office or security desk upon their arrival at the school.
  • Security or office staff will request that each visitor provide their government issued ID.
  • The visitor’s name, address, and photo will be checked for a match to a national sexual offender database and other public records regarding people who cannot access school property.  Visitors who are not in the database will be issued a date-specific visitor’s badge. These badges must be worn at all times while on the school grounds.
