Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Reading and English is to teach students to read, write, comprehend, and speak using a balanced literacy approach. The Balanced Literacy Framework for Portsmouth Public Schools includes five reading components, five writing components and three word study components that work together to provide a classroom structure that is responsive to the stages of literacy. Our framework is intended to guide the planning and delivery of classroom instruction in these three areas as students become proficient and independent readers.
