Summer School

Summer School

Portsmouth Public Schools will again offer summer school programs for select students (elementary, middle and high) beginning Monday, June 24. For more information about the programs, please see below.

Elementary School
Teachers will contact the parent/guardian of students who are recommended for summer school (which will be based on academic performance in the 2023-24 school year). If the parent/guardian approves enrollment, then the student will be registered for summer school by the teacher.

Elementary schools will hold summer school classes Monday, June 24 – Thursday, July 25. Letters will be mailed home to parents detailing the site their child/children will attend.

Middle School
Like elementary schools, middle school teachers will contact the parent/guardian of students who are recommended for summer school (which will be based on academic performance in the 2023-24 school year). If the parent/guardian approves enrollment, then the student will be registered for summer school by the school counselor.

Middle school summer classes will be held at I.C. Norcom High School from Monday, June 24 – Thursday, July 25. Instruction will focus on all four content for the five-week summer school session. A student can take any combination of two core content classes.

High School
Summer school will be available to any student who earned a “D” or “F” in a core course during the 2023-24 school year, or those seeking credit advancement in Health and PE 9/10. Courses will be offered at I.C. Norcom High School over two separate three-week sessions (Please note: Health and PE courses require attendance at BOTH sessions for a total of six weeks). A student can take two repeat credit courses or one credit advancement PE course. Session One will take place June 24 – July 11. Session Two will take place July 15 – Aug. 1.
