Churchland Elementary School Principal Dr. Jamill Jones has been named as the President of the Virginia Association of Elementary Schools Principals (VAESP).

The VAESP is a professional organization serving elementary and middle school principals and other education leaders throughout the state of Virginia. In her role, Jones will help provide a voice for school administrators by leading the professional network, advocating for public education legislation as well as collaborating with leaders across the state through conferences, workshops and other events.

“We are very proud of Dr. Jones as she takes on this exciting new role,” said Dr. Elie Bracy III, superintendent of Portsmouth Public Schools. “Undoubtedly, VAESP will benefit - as we have throughout the years - from her insight, vision and dedication. We also are eager to see the great practices and ideas she will bring back to Portsmouth through this opportunity.”

This new role will not conflict with her current responsibilities at Churchland Elementary, where she will continue to serve as principal throughout her tenure as president.
