At the Feb. 10 meeting of the School Board of the City of Portsmouth, the Board voted to appoint Costella Williams as an interim member of the Board, filling the position left by Claude Parent. Williams will serve in this role through Dec. 31, 2022.
Williams is a veteran School Board member, choosing not to run for re-election in 2020 after serving on the School Board for 12 years. In 2021, she was again appointed to serve on the Board in an interim capacity, at that time filling the position of De’Andre Barnes, who had been elected to City Council.
In her previous tenure on the Board, Williams had served as vice-chairwoman as well as on a number of the division’s committees, including Human Resources and Curriculum and Instruction.
