Five more PPS schools earn Purple Star designation

I.C. Norcom High School, Manor High School, Cradock Middle School, Churchland Primary & Intermediate Elementary School and Churchland Academy Elementary School have earned the Purple Star designation by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on the Educational Opportunity for Military Children.

The Purple Star honors schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families. This can be done in a number of ways, including by providing resources and programming on issues important to military families, such as academic planning and transitions between schools, divisions and states.

In earning this designation this year, these five schools will hold this honor for the next three years. All total, PPS now has eight Purple Star schools as Victory Elementary, Churchland Middle, and Churchland Elementary earned the honor last year.

This spring, a new cohort of PPS schools will begin the application process.
