Fourth-graders can take part in the Young Author's Academy
Students are invited to join the Portsmouth Public Schools Title I Program and Office of English Instruction for the Young Author’s Academy. This exciting event invites fourth-grade students and their parents/guardians for a series of fun, hands-on sessions focused on storytelling and improving writing skills. Over three evenings—Feb. 5, 12, and 19, from 5-7 p.m., at the Emily Spong Center—participants will craft and publish their own books, culminating in a publishing extravaganza.

PPS Office of Special Education Parent Resource and Information Center hosting 'Heart, Body, and Mind' event
The division's Parent Resource and Information Center is hosting Heart, Body, and Mind - Be Your Own Valentine!, a wellness event aimed to stress the importance of health. Attendees will receive information for healthy eating, learn fun physical activities to support heart health, and discuss supports for mental health needs. The event will take place Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 5-7 p.m., in Room 2 at the S.H. Clarke Building.

Mid-year Elementary School Supply Drive-Thru to help replenish supplies for students
Thursday, Feb. 20, PPS staff will be on-site at the Tidewater Community College-Portsmouth campus, from 4-5 p.m., for the Mid-year Elementary School Supply Drive-Thru. Sponsored by Mercy Drops Dream Center, students from all elementary schools can receive new school supplies for the rest of the year. For more information, call 757-393-8392.

Cradock Elementary celebrating Black History Month with Apollo Talent Showcase
Cradock Elementary School is hosting The Apollo Talent Showcase, a student talent show celebrating Black History Month. The showcase will take place Thursday, Feb. 27, from 6-8 p.m., and will highlight the rich history and cultural contributions of Black Americans through music, dance, poetry, and more. This event features students in kindergarten through sixth grade showcasing their talent, creativity, and community pride, while also paying tribute to the legacy of the historic theater and its influence in the local arts scene.
